Roll over lady... at this point, your body has most likely told you that it won't tolerate your sleeping on your back. It just can't take the pressure. It won't hurt you to sleep on your right side, but sleeping on your left side is your best bet. Your liver is on your right side and you have a major vein (vena cava) in your lower back, so sleeping on your left side takes the pressure off your liver and increases blood flow to your organs and extremities and reduces swelling.
A body or wedge pillow may help you get comfortable. But if your heartburn is too much to bear, you might even try sleeping in a recliner. Being upright helps keep the acid from coming up.
