| Your baby consists of 70-100 cells called a blastocyst and is floating freely down your fallopian tube. After about a week, give or take
48 hours, this cell
group will implant within the nutrient lining of your womb. |
Your Baby
Your baby is still just a twinkle in your eye. Doctors actually begin counting the 40 weeks of pregnancy from the first day of your last period. Right now, you eggs are still in your ovaries, some are ripening, and one will be release when you ovulate (most likely next week).
You
Your period is over, your body is preparing to release another egg from your ovaries, and your uterus is starting to form a lining of blood-rich tissue, awaiting the arrival of a fertilized egg.
Counting from the first day of your last period, ovulation usually occurs on day 14. Because sperm can live for up to 3 days in a woman’s body, you are most likely to get pregnant 2 to 3 days before you ovulate and 12 to 24 hours after.
There are many methods and products to help you determine precisely when you’re ovulating, but if having a baby is what you’re after, having sex (intercourse, this is!) at least every other day this month is your best bet.
And to make sure you’re at your most fertile, maintain a healthy diet (rich in calcium, manganese, and zinc), put a limit on caffeine (one or 2 cups a day is okay), avoid too much alcohol (that goes for men, too!), and make sure your partner keeps those testicles cool. He should switch from briefs to boxers and stay off the bike and out of the hot tub.
Now’s a good time to prep your body for pregnancy. (In other words, it’s time for the party girl to put on a new hat.) Schedule an appointment with your doctor, get a prescription for prenatal vitamins, and start eating a healthy diet rich in folic acid, calcium, manganese, and zinc.
