Description
Founded in 1987, Friends’ School was run by a small group of dedicated parents who wanted a school where the whole child is educated and revered for who they are. Today Friends’ School remains true to this vision and offers a comprehensive, independent, nonreligious program for children in Preschool (age 3) through grade five (age 11). We challenge students through experimentation, exploration and direct instruction with small classes, low student to teacher ratios, and active, involved parents.
Friends’ School is committed to educating the whole child – head, hand, and heart. In every child’s education, many different areas need to be addressed. These include the cognitive, physical, creative, social/emotional, and spiritual aspects of learning. Our teachers integrate, honor, and consciously teach to each of these dimensions.
We also support children’s innate curiosity and desire to learn by creating an educational environment that balances depth and breadth, as well as process and content. We foster both critical and creative thinking in our students. Through individual and cooperative hands-on learning experiences, children construct their own knowledge and engage with the real world. We help children to be fluent readers, spontaneous and literate writers, sound mathematicians, scientific thinkers, and curious global citizens.
In addition to teaching children, Friends’ School teaches teachers and benefits by offering a unique teacher preparation program. This program provides practical classroom teaching experience and course work enabling teachers to attain a Colorado teaching license as well as a Master’s degree in education.
Friends’ School is accredited by the Association of Colorado Independent Schools (ACIS) and is an active member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). We have proudly served Boulder County and the surrounding area for over two decades.
