Extreme Outdoors

Parents looking for a great way to get their children away from the television and video games this summer have a secret weapon this year.

In addition to ongoing educational and interactive exhibits, The Wildlife Experience in Parker has a series of activities planned for the summer months that will highlight outdoor adventure and wildlife appreciation.

Chief among these activities are a series of summer camps that will have children between the ages of 5 and 13 exploring the outdoor world that we all enjoy here in Colorado.

A series of half-day, one-week camps begin June 4 for children ages 5-8 and run through August 10. Camp themes include Extreme Outdoors and Eco Adventures. Children will discover how animals survive harsh conditions, learn about extreme environments and find out what it takes to participate in extreme sports. They will also have the chance to learn about outdoor adventures in their own backyards, including canoeing, camping, climbing and hiking.

All of these lessons include a liberal helping of fun activities, such as craft, movies and museum tours.

These opportunities are sure to spark your child’s interest in the world around them, as well as get them some fresh air and exercise.

Cost: 1 week $110 for museum member, $130 for non-member

Wilderness Adventure Camp

Children ages 9-13 can participate in Wilderness Adventure Camp, The Wildlife Experience’s collaborative effort with the Highlands Ranch Community Association and the Backcountry Wilderness Area.

This series of week-long, full-day camps begins June 18 and runs through August 3.

Some of the awesome adventures include horseback riding, archery, hayrides, wildlife tracking and wilderness survival. Campers will also have the chance to explore the exhibits, conduct science experiments, see 3D movies and participate in live animal encounters.

Cost: 1 week $265 for museum members, $345 for non-members
