Our summer camp provides educational activities that are fun! Each day begins with a reading circle. Listening and reading out loud from the age appropriate writing is followed by a discussion on who, what, where, when, why and how of the book and its characters. Often, we choose books recommended by the schools in the area for summer reading!
The campers will then transition into the first academic block consisting of activities such as journal entry, vocabulary, sentence construction and handwriting. We use Handwriting Without Tears curriculum to teach kids good handwriting habits to help them write more effortlessly and be able to better focus on the content and format.
After a snack, we head to the field outside! While playing hopscotch and ring toss, dribbling a ball and rope jumping, kids practice mental math techniques. These activities are based on the Top Banana Math curriculum taught in our classrooms during the school year. You will be amazed at how quickly they can crunch numbers in their head!
The campers return for lunch and a little relaxation. After lunch, it’s time for the second academic block which includes various strategy based instructions and activities such as board and card games, origami, dominoes, checkers, puzzles and others.
Afternoon snack takes place before our last activity of the day that may vary from group reading to watching a movie to participating in a board game tournament to arts and crafts.
