Camp BizSmart specializes in unique entrepreneur and business skills development so that aspiring students can create the next great product innovations and companies. Through fast, fun, hands-on work in teams, students acquire the skills necessary to solve business problems, design new products and defend their solution to successful executives and angel investors.
Each year we select two award winning or in the news companies with successful and inspiring founders who have created innovative business products to solve current pressing problems and challenges in the world. Watch for 2013 companies and business cases to be announced on our blog and website.
Students will work in teams for the duration of the 10-day program. At the beginning, each student chooses an executive management role; CEO, CFO, CTO, CMO, CSO, or CIO.
Each team is made up of 5-6 students. Teams are chosen on the first day of the session following a series of activities that give students the opportunity to learn the skills, capabilities and personalities of their campmates.
What to Expect
Students will spend the first 8 days working with their team, focused on solving a single business problem. Everything that they need to know to achieve their objectives is provided through hands-on curriculum and industry mentors. Students who do well in our camps love to solve problems, have a strong work ethic and are persistent. Although it’s not formally part of our schedule, students should expect to spend additional time working in the evenings and over the first weekend. We’ve found that this extra time really helps teams refine their solution, further build teamwork skills, and finalize their presentation. To help facilitate this after-hours work, we share virtual technology tools so students can meet up online..
Student inventions are transformed into full color product renderings by industrial design firm, WAGIC. Successful business executives from Cisco, Serious Energy, NeuroSky, HopeLab, and more, mentor the students and provide insight into what makes a business idea successful. Through fast, fun, work in teams, students gain the skills necessary to design, support, and defend their business solution to investors at the BizPlan Competition held at Microsoft and other special locations.
Please note: Attendance is mandatory for all 10 days. This is a team-based competition and everyone plays a vital role. Teams with absent members would find it extremely difficult to succeed.
