Earth Day is officially April 22, but to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a national nonprofit organization that champions for the Earth and the health of its inhabitants, Earth Day is every day.

With its California offices stationed in Oakland, the EWG uses the power of information to protect the environment and public health – especially the health of children – by advocating for stronger environmental policies and regulations.

Given the Bay Area’s eco-friendly reputation, the EWG will hold its second annual Earth Dinner on May 11 at San Francisco’s Ferry Building. Guest speakers include Andrew Weil, M.D., and EWG founder Ken Cook, who will lead a discussion on how to assist global change through our food choices and legislative advocacy.

“If we’re going to make substantial gains in childhood nutrition, affordable organic food and protecting sensitive lands from the effects of chemical agriculture, (we) have to demand Congress turn the upcoming farm bill into a food bill,” says Cook.

The three-course dinner includes local fare paired with organic wine. Tickets are $250 and available by emailing jocelyn@ewg.org or calling 202-667-6982. ewg.org.
