Alkemie Dairy-free Ice Cream

We all scream for … frozen non-dairy ice cream made from organic cashews, coconut cream and agave nectar? That’s the elixir for dairy-intolerant or vegan mamas and kids dreamed up by San Mateo-based Alkemie Dairy-free Ice Cream. The new product comes in vanilla bean, dark chocolate and mint chocolate chip. While not low-fat, Alkemie’s founders say it has “the good fat.” $5.99 a pint at Whole Foods. alkemieicecream.com.

The Keepsake Keeper

Is your scrapbook pile reaching mountainous proportions, but never quite making it into a book? Then San Francisco’s Kangaroom Storage has a Mother’s Day gift for you. No cutting or pasting required. $29.99. kangaroomstorage.com.

A Truly Organized Mom

Finally, an organizer made for the family lynch pin who keeps everyone’s schedules in synch. Started by four moms, TrulyMom offers a line of tri-fold organizers that include a pull-out calendar, address book, three note pads, a post-it note pad and a pen. Plus, there’s an array of coordinating accessories, such as gift lists, kids’ activities stickers and party and vacation planning books. $60-$150. trulymom.com.

Common Sense Media

Thanks to San Francisco-based Common Sense Media, parents can get a fair assessment of movies, TV shows, music, Web sites and video games, and how appropriate they are for kids. Their straightforward assessments aren’t preachy or condescending, and the site should be a must-read this upcoming summer blockbuster season. commonsensemedia.org.

Clothing Swaps

This brilliant age-old idea is getting a 21st century treatment. Thanks to such Web sites as peaceloveswap.com and thredUP.com, parents can easily exchange their kids’ gently used and outgrown clothing. Some sites do most of the trading online. Other sites set up actual “swaps,” such as the Kid’s Clothing and Gear Swap in Vacaville on Saturday, May 22. The event will be held at Aerials Gymnastics, 3777-A Vaca Valley Pkwy. Drop off items between 11 a.m. and noon. The swap runs 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Visit peaceloveswap.com for more details.

Family-friendly Apps

San Francisco mom Michele Bigley knows what it’s like to be out in the urban wilderness in search of fun activities for her family. That’s why she authored two new iPhone applications: Family-friendly San Francisco and Family-friendly Napa/Sonoma. Published by Sutro Media and available on itunes.com, it lists activities, restaurant recommendations, diaper-changing stations and other hidden gems in and around these geographic areas. With more than 100 listings and growing, it provides maps, reviews and free updates for life. $1.99. sutromedia.com.
