Where's Your Tax Refund?

If the federal government owes you a tax refund this year, you may already be waiting impatiently for the check. To take the suspense out of your life, you can use the Internal Revenue Service’s online “Where’s My Refund?” tool to find out when your application was received and whether your refund has been processed.

Before you hop online to see where your money is, make sure that you have the following information handy:

• your Social Security number

• your filing status (single, married filing jointly, married filing separately, etc.)

• the exact dollar amount of your refund as shown on your tax return. (The “Where’s My Refund?” tool will not work without this precise number.)

Armed with the above information, head to https://sa.www4.irs.gov/irfof/lang/en/irfofgetstatus.jsp to get your refund status.

General tax information, including downloadable forms, can be found on the IRS’ main site, www.irs.gov.
