• Things We Love: Recipes by Ina Garten • What's in Season? Watercress!
The minute it gets warm outside, I start hankering for practically anything by cookbook author and caterer Ina Garten. I love her provincial-Long Island approach, and her hearty love for delicious, beautiful food. Even better, most of it is perfectly suited to the family table. These are recipes you always wanted your mom to cook (preferably in Garten's flower-strewn Hamptons dining room).
Her latest book, Barefoot Contessa at Home (Clarkson Potter, 2006), has kid-friendly classics like Lamb Kebabs with Couscous, Chicken Piccata, and Cornmeal Fried Onion Rings. OK, it might be a while before my kids are eating onion rings, but someday they will and until that blessed day, they can learn by watching their parents devour every last one of them. In the meantime, our family desserts are happier, heartier and lovelier in the presence of Garten's Lemon Yogurt Cake.
