Having an adult nearby isn’t enough to keep kids from hurting themselves in the bathtub, according to a new study from the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Columbus Children’s Hospital. Researchers found that 85 percent of kids under age 5 who were hurt in the tub were being supervised at the time. And though slips and falls caused 82 percent of bathtub injuries reviewed in the study, which included 204 cases, fewer than 40 percent of parents of injured children reported using slip-resistant mats or strips. Until tub manufacturers make tub bottoms less slippery, they’re a good idea.
