Injuries by the Numbers
The National Safe Kids Campaign and the American Academy of Pediatrics estimate that:

More than 30 million children participate in organized sports in the United States.

Each year, 3.5 million youths under age 15 suffer sports-related injuries. Of these, 775,000 are treated in hospital emergency departments.

About 25 percent of those injuries treated in emergency rooms are considered serious.

Children ages 5 to 14 account for nearly 40 percent of all sports-related injuries.

Boys account for nearly 75 percent of all sports-related injuries.

60 percent of organized sports-related injuries occur during practice.
