At Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA), which works to finance affordable housing, small businesses and economic growth opportunities in the state of Colorado, its mission of caring begins at home.

The downtown agency with nearly 160 employees offers a wide array of programs and benefits to nourish that culture, including tuition reimbursement, flexible work arrangements, a Paid Time Off bank and an employee assistance program that offers reduced fees at drop-in daycare facilities.

“Our culture is to work hard while you are here, and leave things at the office when you go home,” says Rachel Basye, director of marketing and strategic development.

The office is equipped with showers to allow employees to take advantage of free lunchtime yoga and aerobics classes. Additional lunchtime offerings have included Spanish and knitting. CHFA also provides parking reimbursement and concierge dry-cleaning and laundry service.

Health benefits include medical, dental and vision for full-time employees – prorated for part-time workers – as well as some health benefits for family members and domestic partners. An Employee Staff Loan program provides eligible employees interest- and fee-free loans to be used as part of a down payment on a house, home improvement, renter’s assistance or hardship assistance. Employees also receive a “flex credit” of $300 a year to offset uncovered benefit expenses or to use as they see fit.

Additionally, all employees may take up to eight hours a year to volunteer in the community. The agency has several management personnel and employees who are board members of a variety of nonprofits including The Gathering Place, Habitat for Humanity and Warren Village.

“Our philosophy has always been to be at market regarding pay and to exceed market regarding benefits,” says Basye. “It’s a great place to work because CHFA has so much to offer employees.”
