If you’ve got twins, triplets or more, this month is for you!
Having twins, triplets or even more multiples is a wonderful blessing. It’s also a lot of work, worry and stress. The negative headlines surrounding the octuplets born in Southern California recently have, in part, prompted three national organizations to establish the first annual National Multiple Birth Awareness Month in April 2009.
The goal is to draw more attention to the complex issues that families of multiples face –fetal problems such as Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome, premature births, low birth-weight babies, twins with special needs, the separation of twins in classrooms, and the extraordinary demands on parents of multiples.
The three organizations behind this initiative are TWINS™ Magazine, the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs Inc. (NOMOTC), and the Fetal Hope Foundation. Numerous events are planned in communities nationwide to mark this month, including a National Multiples Family Festival in Denver on April 19, featuring games, contests, prizes and vendors.
