Giving Back at 25 Cents a Glass
Sunkist Growers is distributing 20,000 free cardboard lemonade stands through the end of August to children who pledge to raise money for a charity of their choice. It’s part of the citrus marketing cooperative’s fifth annual “Take a Stand” campaign, an award-winning program that encourages kids nationwide to give back to their communities by donating earnings from an old-fashioned lemonade sale.
“Take a Stand” has shipped out more than 30,000 free lemonade stands over the past four years to children in all 50 states who, in turn, have raised an estimated $2.8 million for charities such as Special Olympics, Make a Wish Foundation, the Red Cross, March of Dimes and the American Heart Association.
Kids ages 7 to 12 who pledge their commitment to a charity online at www.sunkist.com/takeastand receive a free, 5-foot-high, cardboard lemonade stand. It’s colorful and easy to assemble, with space on the front panel to write in your cost-per-cup of lemonade and your charity of choice. The Web site also offers recipes, advertising signs, safety tips and other advice.
Get your kids outside and involved in giving back. And if you see a sidewalk lemonade stand this summer, don’t pass it by – it could be your chance to help out a special charity.
