Kids love cooking with apples as much as they love picking them. These recipes are simple enough to make the project do-able and delicious.

Apple Crisp


A simple recipe that kids will enjoy making and a tasty after-school treat.


8 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples, mix varieties (about 10 medium)


1/2 cup raisins


1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs


1/3 cup flour


1/2 cup oatmeal (not quick oats)


1 teaspoon cinnamon


1 teaspoon nutmeg


1/2 teaspoon cloves


1/4 cup melted butter


1/2 cup cider or 1/4 cup each cider and orange juice


Put apples in 2 1/2-quart shallow baking pan. Add raisins. Pour cider over apples. Mix all other ingredients until crumbly. Sprinkle crumbs over apples.


Bake in pre-heated 375-degree oven for 35 minutes or until bubbling and golden brown. Cool for 15 minutes before serving.
